Editorial Policy

This on-line Research Site reflects basic and independent research, sponsored by Pioneer, on savings, wealth and investment behaviour. It aims at bridging the gap between academic thinking and applied research and is a complement to best practice processes, especially in terms of governance.

Who Can Submit?

Trends in Savings and Wealth seeks to post working papers reflecting basic research and innovative policy ideas or engaging commentary on the issues of the day. Anyone may submit a working paper or a feature.

Assignment of Intellectual Property Rights

Those who submit a paper to be hosted by Trends in Savings and Wealth, must own the copyright (either as the sole original author or through a legal right) to the work being submitted or are authorized by the copyright owner or owners to submit the paper. The authors are aware that the papers submitted will be posted on the Trends in Savings and Wealth website, with the acknowledgment that Trends in Savings and Wealth will place their works in the section and font it considers most appropriate. The authors will have full responsibility for the contents of the posted papers and unless specified, will keep the intellectual property rights on them. Should these papers be subsequently accepted, in part or fully, for publication in other journals, books or working paper series the authors will inform immediately Pioneer Global Asset Management S.p.A. (PGAM.ResearchUnit@pioneerinvest.it). In such cases, Pioneer will expect an explicit reference to the previous posting in Trends in Savings and Wealth Working Papers Series. You shall indemnify and hold Pioneer harmless from any liability, damage, cost, expense, or judgment, arising from any violation of any copyright, patent, trademark, property or contractual right or personal right of any person or entity relating to any paper you submit to Trends in Savings and Wealth Working Papers Series.

General Submission Rules

Papers must not include the name of specific investment products. Submitted working papers should not have been previously published, except if for limited or specific circulation. They may however be preparatory or part of forthcoming papers or articles in a scientific or archival journal, book (print or electronic) or even in another working paper series. Publication in a working-paper series does not constitute “prior publication”. Trends in Savings and Wealth requires that papers comply with our style guide before submission (See the Manuscript Preparation Guidelines). Formatting Requirements

Manuscript Preparation Guidelines (as from The Economists' Voice) This guide is divided into Writing Instructions and Technical Instructions. Writing Instructions

• Use simple language; avoid jargon.
• Make the piece understandable to an intelligent college graduate, even one with no economics degree. Aim for the accessibility of a sophisticated Op-Ed article, without compromising the soundness of your argument.
• Write something interesting to a professional economist, your grandparents, and a policy junkie -- yes, all at once.
• Include supporting facts and statistics.
• Intersperse a short sentence between one or more long ones.
• Write punchy prose.
• Avoid adjectives or adverbs when possible.
• Include a few subheadings to break up the text. Make these bold font, and left justified.
• State a thesis early.
• Allow yourself time to edit your piece before sending it to us. Give it to a graduate student who writes well to edit if possible.
• Avoid contractions. Use "is not" in place of "isn't".
• References for further reading are encouraged at the end of papers for those who wish to read more on the subject. Put references in Journal of Economic Perspectives style, without the italics or bold.
• Footnotes should be avoided if possible, but kept scarce in any case.

Technical Instructions

• Use MS Word if possible.
• Font: Times New Roman 12 pt. for text; 11 pt for footnotes.
• Use 2 cm margins for left and right, 3 cm for top and bottom.
• Right and left justify margins.
• Indent paragraphs 0.75 cm.
• Space: multiple 1.3
• Space between paragraphs. (extra 12 pt)
• A short bio is encouraged after the main text. It should be in italic font and separated by solid lines above and below.
• A "References" section is encouraged after the short bio. The words "References” should be in bold as other headings, but the text should be in normal font -- no bold or italics.
• Use italics to emphasize text, not underlining nor bold.
• Subheadings. Bold font, 12 pt left justified. Extra space before subheading.
• Do not include a title page or abstract; instead type a proposed title on the submission form and type or paste your lead or summary there as well.
• Avoid widows at the end of pages when possible.
• Write "percent" in place of "%".
• Write out integers between one and ten: hence, "eight" not "8".
• Put all Tables and Figures at the end of the document, after “References”.
